A bit of my cultural heritage

I've just been reading a post about the 250th anniversary of the sandwich (which apparently fell around a week ago), which included a link to a photograph of a well-known roadsign in my native part of the world. My dad was a Sandwich boy, so I've known about the 'Ham Sandwich' crossroads for as long as I can remember. But it wasn't this junction. There was (is) another junction, on the main road between Sandwich and Deal, which also included a finger post (long since replaced by a 'modern' version) like the ones in the picture for a village called Worth (where my aunt, my dad's older sister, was born), and another for a village called Great Mongeham, hence the local saying 'ham sandwich is worth a great deal'. As an aside, I was born in another of the places mentioned on the roadsign in the picture.
The post that initiated this bit of nostalgia on my part asked the question 'What's your favourite sandwich?'. After much consideration, and by a nose against many worthy contenders, my vote goes for toasted roast beef.

Love & best wishes to all

  1. Hi, Sammy! Nice post! Good to hear from you.

I think my favorite probably mirrors yours: I love a roast beef sandwich, thinnly sliced, cooked rare, with some nice horseradish and perhaps a bit of mayo on a roll. Yummy!

    Peace <3

    1. Hello Jay
I saw the 'sandwich anniversary' post on another blog, and not having previously been aware of it, it piqued my interest, I guess. The 'local boy' aspect probably nudged me, too - East Kent is 'my' part of the world, for a couple of generations, at least, and all my siblings still live in the area. I'm the only one who's managed to escape!

      Love & best wishes
