He'll be sadly missed - not

I've just read that Fred Phelps (Westboro Baptist Church bigot-in-chief, for those who might not know) is dead. To shamelessly plagiarise a Spike Milligan joke - if I remember correctly - doctors describe his condition as satisfactory.

Love & best wishes to all

  1. Yeah, one less bigot in the world. But even he wasn't bigoted enough so they threw him out of his own church. The verdict is still out on whether WBC will survive much longer now that the hate fuel is gone.

The trouble is, if it's not them, it will very likely be someone else - Pastor Manning of Harlem, with his recent 'Jesus would stone homos' bullshit seems a likely candidate. But, of course, they'll all ultimately go the way of Phelps (and the rest of us, naturally), and draw their last breath. Then it will be up to the next generation to, hopefully, build a more tolerant world.

  2. SB, If I my quote un named source regarding Rev. Phelps, " I've never wished for anyone's death, but I have read an obituary that made me smile." That about sums it up. Randy.

I couldn't agree more - Phelps, as far as I'm concerned, was a thoroughly objectionable, deeply unpleasant person, and one whose passing doesn't grieve me in the slightest. I feel that resorting to gloating, though, as some have done, is sinking to his levell. Un-sadly unmissed, nevertheless. Thank you for your visit, and your comment.
