I've just heard on the radio that Facebook have decided that the cover picture of Nirvana's Nevermind violates their terms of service. That and much of the classical and religious art of the Western World, then, presumably, all those nymphs and cherubs brazenly displaying their genitalia, disgraceful! Michaelangelo's David, get the chisels out! Order an infinite supply of fig leaves! The fuckwitted stupidity of these people never, ever ceases to amaze me.

Hi Sammy;
ReplyDeleteThere is a great misconception that the meat we buy in the grocery just arrives. It's just there. There surely isn't an animal involved, there surely isn't a butcher, death, repackaged sustenance....
.... and I think the same comes from some people who fail to realize that nudity is just that. That sex is more a matter of mind than body seems to escape them and actually becomes the tell tale in thier own "offense". People want to believe their own myth while living thier own lies. It's adults giggling at the national geographic like little kids, failing to realize there is a reason the people in that area weren't wearing clothing...
The problem is, the folks in charge are too afraid to tell people 'grow up'. I wonder if the black and white is still in fashion for quakers and puritans? We'll likely need a wardrobe change here soon.
hugs, my friend.
randy.
Hello Randy
ReplyDeleteI've thought about this a fair bit over the last day and a half since I heard it, and the more I think about it, the more stupid I believe it to be. Even on a thoroughly superficial level, the 'offensive' picture is one of the least erotic imaginable - I mean, and no offence to the young man (as he is now) in the picture, apart from anything else, it's one of the ugliest baby pictures I've ever seen!
Seriously, though, the 'puritan' image you call to mind is thoroughly apposite. The petty, small-minded censoriousness of it is what I find most objectionable, the implication that anyone who looked at the picture would be so suggestible as to rush out and molest the nearest baby unless they were protected from sin by those with sterner moral fibre than themselves, the self-appointed 'we'll tell you what you can look at, what you can read, how you can live your life' brigade. Absolutely comtemptible, as far as I'm concerned.
And yes, you're absolutely right in another respect - the brain is by far the most potent sex organ in the human body.
Love & best wishes
